Jo Rowling donates £10m to open MS research clinic in memory of her mother

JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series has donated 10 million pounds to the University of Edinburgh to set up a MS clinic. The clinic, which will "focus on patient-based studies to help find treatments that could slow progression of the disease, working towards the eventual aim of stopping and reversing it," will be called the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic.

Ms. Rowling said:

I cannot think of anything more important, or of more lasting value, than to help the university attract world-class minds in the field of neuroregeneration, to build on its long and illustrious history of medical research and, ultimately, to seek a cure for a very Scottish disease.

I have just turned 45, the age at which my mother, Anne, died of complications related to her MS.

I know that she would rather have had her name on this clinic than on any statue, flower garden or commemorative plaque, so this donation is on her behalf, too; and in gratitude for everything she gave me in her far-too-short life.

Emma Watson talks about her new haircut
While in New York City doing promotional work for Deathly Hallows Part 1, Emma Watson got a new haircut, which you can see at Entertainment Weekly:

"Oh my God, it was the most liberating thing!" she tells EW.com. "The stylist just grabbed the back of my hair and took a whole ponytail of hair out. It felt amazing. I love it." The chic, gamine cut, created by New York stylist Rodney Cutler of Cutler Salon and seen in this exclusive Polaroid from EW's upcoming Fall Movie Preview issue, might not seem like a huge deal to most 20-year-olds. But Watson has had to sport essentially the same hairstyle for ten years while she played Hermione. "I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through," she says. "I've wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, 'Right. This is it.'"

12-page horoscope and natal chart written by JK Rowling is up for sale

The Scotsman reports that a horoscope and natal chart written by JK Rowling some time ago for the parents of a baby boy is now up for sale:

The multi-millionaire writer, who celebrates her 45th birthday tomorrow had met the parents of the boy at baby classes she attended with daughter Jessica when she was a penniless single mother in Edinburgh.

The horoscope, dedicated to Jack David Buchanan who was born in 1994, offers a fascinating insight into Rowling's writing and imagination before she went on to worldwide success.

The cover illustration depicts the chart's key astrological symbols of the sun, fishes and a lion in pen, ink, and coloured pencil laid down on bright blue coloured card.

In it, Rowling, who is worth more than £500million, displays a detailed knowledge of Western astrology which was later to play an important part in her books.

She wrote: "Born the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. He will enjoy school, perhaps be accident-prone, (like all Pisces) could be prone to alcoholism, and (perhaps like us all) may well fall in love with someone totally incompatible."

Author's estate suing Scholastic over similarities to 'Goblet of Fire'
The estate of British author Adrian Jacobs that took on Bloomsbury in 2009 is now suing Scholastic claiming that "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is "substantially similar" to Jacobs' 1987 book "The Adventures of Willy the Wizard."

“The central theme of each work -- a yearlong wizard contest -- unfolds as similar characters enact parallel plot points,” according to the complaint.

Official 'Harry Potter' site updated for 'Deathly Hallows'

Warner Bros. has updated their official Harry Potter web site to begin promoting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The new site is restrained and elegant in its simplicity and greets visitors first with the trailer that was shown at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, before leading into a bare-bones selection of options including a small gallery.

Billed as the "finale of the worldwide phenomenon," emblazoned at the top of the site it reads, "IT ALL ENDS HERE."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will hit theaters November 19, 2010. Part 2 is slotted for July 15, 2011.

WB to screen 'Deathly Hallows' footage at ComicCon 2010

The New York Times is reporting that Warner Brothers plans to screen footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at ComicCon 2010 in San Diego this summer.

This year, the four-day convention, which begins on July 22, will be host to what has become an obligatory parade of filmmakers and stars hawking their next big thing with extended film clips and question-and-answer sessions in the cavernous Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center. Warner Brothers will be there with “Green Lantern,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and a film called “Sucker Punch,” billed as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.”

While there is no word at the moment of what type of footage we can expect to see at ComicCon, we can expect to see all-new footage, as well as the likelihood for appearances from cast and/or crew.

We will keep you all updated when any further information on the topic arises.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 is scheduled for November 19, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 comes out July 15, 2011.
